Quite nice room at front of hotel (so quieter than rooms at back). Good breakfast. Nice staff. Reasonable value for money.

The loose shower tap falling on my toe, but the friendly desk clerk gave me a small reduction in the bill (without prompting) by way of apology, and promised to get the faulty unit fixed.

Our room furnished beautifully in keeping with the age of the building. A nice touch was a personal letter from the manager wishing us a enjoyable stay to celebrate our anniversary with a plate of sweet treats on our arrival.

The hotel was excellent, room was fantastic and staff very helpful

Staff was really nice, breakfast and bar service excellent

The porters and reception staff were exceptionally welcoming and attentive. The room itself had fabulous interior design and was fun, as was the two man bath! View of the pier and the sea from the room. (of course that also means a view into the room for passers by when the curtains are open)

Shame there was no shower (bath only), and the room also lacked a full length mirror, which is unusual for an hotel and would have been useful. Also we received an unscheduled wake up call. However, I would definitely come back for another weekend stay.

Staff were extremely polite and welcoming, everything was organised perfectly, our room (the business suite) was fantastic (large, clean, massive bed!!, great ensuite), view overlooked the pier, breakfast was very tasty and the cocktails were good!

Could be a little noisy due to nearby pubs however my boyfriend slept straight through!!

Very polite, helpful and welcoming staff and very clean.

    Slightly noisy but not excessive

The staff at the Royal York were excellent. It was a very nice room, well presented and clean, overlooking the sea. A great location, very central.

The room overlooked the National Express bus stop, which lead to a lot noise at times. The toilet didn't flush properly, and the shower thermostat was broken, which meant a very hot or very cold shower.

  • Older travelers
    7.8

The location was great, sea-front, shopping, eating facilities all within easy walking distance. Staff very friendly and helpful.

Parking, we parked up to 1 mile along the seafront to reduce the cost. The nightclub at the back did not end until 4am Sunday, it was only the noise of people and not music that could be heard with the window open.

  • Family with children
    9.6

The staff were very friendly and the upgraded room was a lucky suprise, it was extremely comfortable and spacious

It was very hot as the air con was broken, the breakfast was very disappointing - the hot buffet was cold, and it just wasn't upto the standard we were expecting. The wasn't a great selection and the pastries were stale!

Good value for money lookin at the quality, style and size of the room and overlooking the Old Steine. Fantastic magazines and brouchers in the room to give you so much information and choice of what to do in Brighton. Actually having working freeview in the room! The bathroom was nice and modern. Staff were very friendly and helpful. Think got a cheeky upgrade too...!

Shame they don't have hot water all night. And the menu in the room about room service was very unclear or it was missing from the pack. Other than that...nothing. Just wished I could ave stayed another night.

Good points - at first the location is v good 30 seconds from Beach Front and Old Town. Upgraded to a business room as had read reviews re noises from coaches which park below the hotel. The room itself was v good. Staff were v polite and professional and breakfast was good.

Noise Noise Noise - I expect to walk out of a hotel feeling refreshed and ready for the day ahead not wanting to go home so I can get some sleep. However I know its no fault of the hotel it but has to be pointed out. I was aware of the reviews re the Coaches and though this is annoying it is bearable and finishes pre midnight however a new club has recently opened across the road "the Haunt" and the noise from this place and mainly those gathered outside smoking and speaking/shouting until after 6am at the top of their voices meant that sleep was only a dream. We were on the third floor so my sympathies go to anyone on lower floors.

The only thing we enjoyed was the very convenient location to the beach and shops, the weather for our weekend stay was first class and was the only reason we never checked out after the first night. The room we booked was small and had no view. We upgraded to a Suite with a better view but the huge window was filthy dirty!! Not a great advert.

The hotel was badly decorated and furnished inside and out. the noise levels of other guests returning to their rooms in the early hours of the morning was horrendous and woke us both nights. The food, service and presentation was poor to say the least. All in all not somewhere we would recommend or book again.

The reception staff were very helpful. The room had a good view and was attractively furnished.

The room, although attractive, was extremely noisy in the early hours of the morning due to clubs and coach pick ups. The shower was totally useless with temperatures running from cold to hot constantly. Breakfast was certainly below the standard of the Holiday Inn, where I have stayed many times, and not worth the money paid. Had I known, I would have eaten out.

  • Older travelers
    7.8

Very nice room with wonderful bathroom. Staff were pleasant and helpful, even though their English was unintelligible at times. Superb location for beach and shops/restaurants.

Hotel restaurant in process of changing franchise, so menu was limited and food just awful. I was disappointed that I wasn't told of the restaurant situation when reserving a table, as there are literally dozens of places to eat a few steps away in The Lanes. The façade and general décor need a good wash and brush up.
